I ran into an unusual issue, but thanks to the good people here reminding me that google is my friend, I found the odd-seeming suggestion that I locate the install file inside one of the folders inside the contents of the download, and then drag that to an open Terminal window. That seemed odd since Terminal is a text command based UI, but I did as suggested and the apps I had removed to save disk space are now installed.
