What a piece of crap Stuffit Deluxe is. And judging from the support page i finally found, it looks like it has been a piece of crap for quite a while now. Anyway, quick background. Purchased and installed Stuffit Deluxe 11 and started having a few issues. First, I couldn't find an option to turn off a piece if junk it installed in my toolbar. Then it wouldn't create proper.zip files (they were flat instead of with folders) and then DiskWarrior reported (hidden) broken files in the Stuffit directory that could not be repaired.
I dragged the entire install directory to the trash and it didn't get rid of the crap it installed in my menus. Stuffit installed crap all over my system! I tried the install program thinking that it would have an uninstall routine build in but it doesn't!
Al that did was reinstall it again! I couldn't find the answer on their site nor did any forums have the solution.
Finally, one thing led to another and I found the single page on SmithMicro's site that had the solution: And let me tell you, the uninstall script is pretty damn scary. It looks like a trojan &@$.! But it works (I guess.
No issues yet!) Hope this helps those that need it. Click to expand.Whatever the merits of the script, it was a complete waste of download time. If you had bothered to quit MagicMenu, then your frustrations would have disappeared.
However, it seems that the root of your problems lie in damage to your computer's file system. The most effective fix I know is to run fsck in Single-User Mode: Restart. As your computer reboots, press the Apple+ keys.
At the command prompt, type fsck -fy This make take some time to complete. If any problems are reported to be fixed, then rerun fsck -fy Type exit This will cause your computer to reboot to the MacOS X GUI. MisterMe, with all due respect, you don't know what the hell you are talking about. To temporarily turn off the MagicMenu, you can click it as you say. But it comes back the next reboot. The only way to get rid of it you have to go into your System Preferences, select user, and go from there. No options in Stuffit Delux to turn that off.
If you remove the program folder you will still have Stuffit options on your menus. The only way to get rid of those is buy running that program I mentioned. The problem files as detected by DiskWarrior were two localized language files that were hidden. I didn't have the option of installing English only.
As a matter of fact, I don't recall ANY options. Luckily i got this at an upgrade price or I'd be pissed. I stand by my original statement, Stuffit Deluxe is a POS.
Thanks for the help/feedback anyway. Maybe it will help someone else. First Post OK this may be my first post, but I think there's a few mistakes made by BOTH of you about this issue. Firstly, even if StuffIt is a bit annoying and I know it crashes whilst opening certain archives. I don't like it, but anyway, it's fairly stable in general. I only had it crash when I asked it to do more than one thing at a time and the interface is really really bad in my opinion. But however, the context menu for files does NOT disappear after dragging the folder to the trash.

The remover you suggest is clean, I opened it in automator and it simply deletes folders from around the drive. This does fix the problems of the non-disappearing menu and I think it does a good job of it.
Some installers DO have uninstall options so despite your 18 years of Mac usage MisterMe I think you should accept that jsut because someone has less experience than you doesn't mean they don't have a better idea than you. Arrogance gets noone anywhere. Now play nicely people.
